If you provide people with the right tools and the right environment to encourage them to study to investigate things to talk about things as groups and team dynamics there is an increased likelihood that learning will occur we worked with a professor emeritus who has spent his career doing institutional research.

Who helped us to develop a scientific methodology if you will that we could use to test out how and why these spaces are working

I think that the informal learning spaces in this building were the best thing that we did students were talking to each other about what they were studying in the hallways and the stairways in those spaces in a way. That I had never seen before students have different needs from the early in the morning to late at night they sometimes let space to work all by themselves.

They want space that they can be with a partner or two they want spaces where they can have working groups and meeting group’s project. Groups that are doing something together so four five six eight students where we’ve had these spaces and buildings they’ve been phenomenally successful.

What we wanted to know is why and does the availability of these spaces have an impact on the culture of learning our research has given us measured insight into what about these spaces does matter and how people are using them.

So What we will try to do in the future is make our buildings even better because now we actually have data to tell us. What people think really matters to them about how these spaces work we had a vision of what we wanted to do.

But we didn’t have very good notion of how to obtain that how to reach that goal they brought in the expertise of all of the buildings they’re building and so we’re able to give us that quality of experience and knowledge that we wouldn’t have had because we’d never built a building before.

KIRKSEY ARCHITECTURE FIRM

One year out of college, a young architectural intern named John Kirksey set out to create the company that is now known as Kirksey Architecture, a pioneer in the architectural industry in Texas, with just one project and an entrepreneurial drive.

The exciting part about cultural arts is the development of two different types of architectural space there’s the public space of people coming in to a cultural arts facility in the excitement of creating and intriguing and exciting space to complement.

Whatever the exhibit or presentation may be and something that is memorable for the audience member that is using the space performing arts centers are a subset of cultural arts facilities which studio red and myself very passionate and being involved with.

It’s all about creating the intimacy and the connection between the performer and all the audience members and how can we marry them up exciting part about that are there many design tools architectural II to create that intimacy and sometimes.

We think of ourselves as psychiatrists of space just because we’re trying to develop a closer relationship and a higher level of performance and receiving. What the story or the messages of that presentation the way the room looks and feels is very important in the churches and the theaters. You know there are certain colors that and shapes that do make it the room feel more intimate there are we.

We’re very sensitive to that we don’t want the person sitting in the audience to feel like they are you know miles away from whoever speaking or the music or the actor or whatever’s going on the platform of the stage

We want them to feel like they’re a part of it we’re working with some new cutting-edge technology with rigging and motors and things that have only been used in limited special productions in Las Vegas you know we’re bringing them to Houston and doing them we’re doing special scenic devices so that the audience is part of the show.

So once we create that intimacy between the two then we’ve got a connection then it’s just a matter of developing an aesthetic architecture an art piece that will help enhance that experience both from both sides
